Margarita Monday | Styling your Kido for a photo shoot

Seriously is it time for an actual cold frosty beverage such as a Delicious Margarita? Ok maybe not this early but whose keeping track of the time. HA!

I wanted to base this Margarita Post around Children’s Portraits, the sun is out, spring is near and whos ready to take some photos?!! When you book a portrait session for your kidos, no matter what age they may be, remember this is probably something you don’t normally get done for them all the time and it is usually for some special occasion? am I right? So why not kick it up a notch ( I know I have heard someone on TV say that term somewhere??)  and make this a fabulously fun and think outside of the “norm”.

Props |

You can go to either extreme, you could absolutely let your child go crazy and bring and wear what he or she is in to at that exact moment in their lives such as a superman cape they wear all over the house 24 7!! or that Princess tiara she just wont ever take off! Or you could also go to the next side of that and have a more trendy photo shoot wearing some of the latest kids fashion trends and bring anything you feel would be fabulous in the shoot. I love it when a parent will bring an old ugly chair or a vintage bike or fun stacking boxes to our shoot, it brings more to the shoot then just those “boring” standing in the middle of a field and say cheese kinds of sessions, right?

Maybe your 4 yr old son is completely into wearing dad’s ties around the house thinking hes a big man now or your 2 year old daughter love’s to play with your Grandmas Jewelry. Bring these things to the shoot. Always ask if you want this shoot to be something different then you have ever done before, lets chat about all the interests and ideas for the shoot itself.  Maybe you are planning on hanging a set of canvas prints on the a certain wall and you need help thinking of how to place them. I will help you do that.

Clothing |

Clothing is very important in a photograph. I recommend wearing lots of textures, layers, buttons, ribbon, ruffles, etc.. This ads interest to their outfits. Make sure they are comfortable with what they are wearing because if they are not, they will not be happy about getting photos taken in them. Colors are always fabulous, poka dots, stripes, whatever, don’t let it scare you! The only thing I would recommend NOT wearing is the T-shirts with the brands on the front in bold, these can be distracting and take away from your baby in the shots.

A few clothing stores that I adore to shop for these sessions are |
